ENVD 5970: Final Project Connect R+A
This project was a final project for one of my last classes in Environmental Design. We partnered with Birmingham, Alabama to connect the Rotary Trail to Avondale. We partnered with them because Alabama ranks 8th worst in the United States in Pedestrian deaths. Birmingham also partnered with Complete Streets Bham to promote a Complete Streets Ordinance. This means that instead of just designing a street to accommodate cars, streets that are begin repaved or significantly modified will be evaluated for the possible addition of sidewalks, crosswalks, bus stops, and bike lanes and landscaping. Our project above does just that in trying to improve the walk score of Birmingham while create areas of work, live, and play.
ENVD 2000 Final Project Wicked Wellness
The project above was my final project for ENVD 2000. I looked at the overall wellness of Auburn's campus looking at food options, work out facilitates, outdoor tracks, running trails, etc. This was one of my favorite projects because it's something I'm very passionate about and hopefully that is shown through my graphics. Something I learned through this project is that sometimes, you may have an idea and certain mindset but that constantly changes as you explore your topic more in depth.
ENVD 2100 Project 2 Chair Project
Above are two sketches that were done in ENVD 2100. This was during summer studio where we had to choose a chair to draw. I chose the Eames Dining Chair. I loved this project because you had to take an object and draw it from different perspectives. I love drawing so it was fun for me to see how different areas of design can be integrated in one project.
ENVD 2100 Project 1 Graves Outdoor Classroom
Above shows my first project in the class ENVD 2100 during Summer Studio. The two diagrams above (a bird eyes view and a section cut) represent an outdoor classroom on Auburn's campus. The purpose of the assignment was to learn how to graphically represent a diagram and learn the different Adobe programs. I chose to work with Adobe Illustrator to draw both diagrams. This project not only taught me how to use the programs, but also how to add a story to your diagrams, something I'd continue to use throughout future projects.
ENVD 2100 Final Project Parker Extension
This project was our final project of ENVD 2100. We had to take a building on Auburn's campus, Parker Hall, and expand onto the building to create a new classroom. Something that was tricky was you couldn't mess with systems that were already in place with the building. I chose to focus on in indoor and outdoor classroom. I learned how to use Sketch Up from this project and how to replicate designs of buildings into new buildings. For example, on my addition I kept the same brick and long windows as the building itself has.
ENVD 3200 Project 3
The following diagrams above represent the two systems of housing and education in Columbus, Georgia. This was a group project with one other student. What I learned through this project was making an exploded map, something I would continue to use in future projects.
ENVD 4010 Final Project Step More Waste Less
The project to your right displays two boards for my project "Step More, Waste Less". The purpose of this project was to research a topic that you were passionate about. For me, that topic was our carbon footprint and what built systems in our environment influence that. I took two systems, transportation and waste. During this project I learned how to look at the broad scheme of things, how buying just one water bottle from the grocery store actually effects our environment. I learned about the small things and how they connect to the big picture. Through this project I also learned how to better my visual skills. We had to start with one board then expand it to two boards. Something that seems so simple took me days and countless hours of reorganizing and replacing certain graphics on the boards to create two cohesive boards. Overall this project helped me realize the big picture and helped me improve my graphic skills.
ENVD 4970 Project 1 Figure Ground
The following figure ground on the left is of Boston, Massachusetts. This was one of the hardest projects I've ever had to do because of how tedious it was. You can to individually trace each building so that it was to scale. I worked on Adobe Illustrator to complete this project. I also learned the layouts of city. I chose the older part of the city to map based on the fact that it wasn't on a perfect grid.
ENVD 4970 Final Project Designing a Neighborhood
This project displayed above was group project, designed by myself and two other students. The graphic portrays our idea of a "perfect neighborhood". Our class was given an imaginary plot of land in Auburn, where we had to decide how to design and format a neighborhood based off the ideals we learned in class. Our neighborhood focuses on a large community center, located in the center of the neighborhood, surrounded by mixed used buildings. Throughout the neighborhood there are tree lined boulevards to slow down traffic and add an aesthetic appeal to the neighborhood. The blocks of the neighborhood are filled with all different sized dwellings the farther back you go; while towards the center each block would have similar sized dwelling. This project taught me how difficult it is to plan a neighborhood and all the different aspects that go into it. For example, how trees make a place more welcoming while slowing down traffic, and how you want to mix up different sized dwellings to create a better sense of community. Overall, this was one of my favorite projects in Environmental Design.
